International Powers Rugeley Power Station
Thermatech (TFC) was appointed as fire consultants to provide fire advice, fire risk assessments and fire compartment surveys at International Powers Rugeley Power Station in Staffordshire.
Rugeley produces approximately 1,000 megawatts of electricity, which is fed into the National Grid system at a high voltage of 400,000 Volts. The power output is enough to meet the needs of approximately ½ million homes.
Rugeley Power Station consists of two 500 Mega-Watt (MW) coal fired units that are capable of producing up to 8,760,000 Mega-Watt-hours (MWh) of energy in a year.
Fire safety is taken very seriously by Rugeley Power Station so it was important that detailed fire risk assessments were carried out and compliant reports produced for all areas. This was a mammoth task and was carried out over two weeks with the assistance of Promanex the on site fire safety engineers.
After completion of the fire risk assessments, it was necessary to survey all fire compartment walls and barriers for damage and compliance and to prepare a detailed report providing recommendations on repairs and suitable products for the task.
